About

I’m Jen, 29 years old, and a UC Berkeley graduate with a degree in Economics.  This means that I learned a lot about economic theory, but was left to figure out personal finance in practice; they don’t teach you that stuff in school.  It’s very similar to a Computer Science graduate figuring out IT work despite the popular belief that all CS majors know how to fix computers.

I picked up the basic principles of money management in my childhood from my frugal working Chinese immigrant parents and more advanced concepts especially when I purchased my first house in San Francisco when I was 24 (coincidentally, my mother had purchased her first house in her home country at 24, too).  In early 2007, I began to take a more active role in my family’s finances especially with the unexpected passing of my father.

This site reflects my journey in understanding personal wealth and my own experiences.  As always, a professional financial advisor and/or a tax advisor should be consulted for specific personal circumstances and situations.
